From the technological innovation of the intelligent network to the continuous operation practice of the digital car city

In the face of the world’s largest smart city infrastructure and smart connected car applications, how can we maximize the value of it? In February this year, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council clearly put forward the strategic requirements for promoting the coordinated development of intelligent networked vehicles and smart cities in the “National Comprehensive Three-dimensional Transportation Planning Outline.” The Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology have also jointly launched a pilot deployment for the coordinated development of smart city infrastructure and smart connected vehicles. Baidu actively responds to the call of dual wisdom, with the goal of realizing the safety, efficiency, and greenness of urban transportation, and implements in-depth practice.

In the development of intelligent transportation, Baidu has been solving problems and constantly practicing: In 2014, Baidu started the research and development of autonomous driving; in 2017, in order to achieve industrial collaborative innovation, it released the Apollo open platform; in 2019, it realized V2X matching unmanned driving Taxi on the road; in 2020, through the implementation of projects in Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone and Guangzhou Huangpu District, Baidu ACE will achieve efficient coordination of diversified intelligent transportation applications; in 2021, actively promote the exploration of dual intelligence practices and innovate business models.

Based on past practice, we have been discussing three questions: What is the goal of infrastructure construction? What is the value of intelligent networked users? What is the business model of dual intelligence collaboration? In continuous practice, we have also found the corresponding answer.

What is the goal of road infrastructure construction? We believe that it should not be an exclusive device for a certain type of application, and should provide a perceivable, effect-based infrastructure platform. The goal of road infrastructure construction is to focus on the overall goals of traffic safety, efficiency, and greenness, and systematically build a moderately advanced traffic infrastructure. It is necessary to return to the original needs of customers and build applications that can support the perceivable traffic flow of the people.

Where is the customer value of Intelligent Networking? We believe that it is necessary to perform big data analysis on the perceived information in accordance with the requirements of business closed-loop, find information such as traffic violations, road damage and other information, and pragmatically integrate effective business platforms, so as to achieve a closed-loop value, rather than a accumulation of functions.

What is the business model of Shuangzhi Synergy? These include who will invest, who will operate, who will support, and who will benefit? Local governments should make good use of the policy window, organize funds and build construction according to the direction of industry support; technology companies should provide technical support around the construction mission, and realize the revitalization of the entire industry chain through the role of intelligent transportation operators.

Returning to Baidu’s original intention of intelligent transportation, I borrowed a sentence from Mr. Li Yanhong in “Intelligent Transportation” as the conclusion: “I think that solving problems is actually innovation. The transformation and upgrading of our real economy and innovation drive the future to a large extent rely on artificial intelligence. We are also very confident that in such an era and in such an environment, we have the opportunity to make our own contribution to the progress of society through technological innovation.”
